Bob Mesle, professor of philosophy and religion at Graceland University, speaks on the theme “Christ Is Risen” for Easter Sunday services at 9:15 and 10:15 a.m. at The Groves Community of Christ congregation, 1515 W. White Oak.
Mesle’s wife, Barbara Hiles Mesle, and his father, community activist Carl Mesle, give special prayers in the services. Christina Nagel, Ward Francis, Irvin and Lois Jones and Brenda Williams assist with Wendy Baughman, Samra Magruder and Marge Wade providing music ministry. All are invited to attend.

On Holy Saturday, Eastgate Christian Church will hold the great vigil of Easter at 8 p.m., featuring a meditation, “Through the Valley, Full of Bones,” and includes special music, traditional Scripture readings and holy communion.
Easter worship service will be at 10:25 a.m. and includes special music and holy communion. The sermon will be “And I Saw a New Jerusalem,” which will consider how Christ’s resurrection points toward the promise of heaven.

Busy Easter at
The First Christian Church of Independence has several activities planned for Easter weekend.
They are holding a community breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Fellowship Hall. The cost is $3.50 for either a half order of biscuits and gravy or all-you-can-eat pancakes with sausage. A full order of biscuits and gravy is $5. All meals include coffee, and orange juice.
On Easter, in addition to the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. services and Sunday school at 9:30 a.m., they will serve breakfast from 7:45 to 10:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. There will also be an indoor children’s Easter egg hunt at 9:30 a.m.

‘Christ is Risen’
is sermon theme
Terry Snapp will speak on the theme “Christ is Risen” at the 10:20 a.m. worship service Easter Sunday at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.
Snapp, the presiding pastor of the Stone Church Community of Christ, holds the priesthood office of high priest. Jerry Nieft will preside. Others participating in the service are Regg Stoner, Sarah Nieft and David Oshel. Special music is provided by Paulette Votava Resch, and the Stone Church choir, with organist John Davies. Drama participants are Carol Constance, Karlee Cole, Paulette Votava Resch, Kathy Nissen, Doris Tousley and Kristopher Taylor.

Sermon series on
the Gospel of John
A sermon series “ ‘... that you might have life...’ Jesus in the Gospel of John” continues at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, including Resurrection Blue Springs.
Sunday worship services at the Blue Springs campus, 601 N.E. Jefferson, are at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Nursery care is available for infants through 3-year-olds, and Sunday school is offered for age 4 through fifth grade.
Resurrection has several campuses, including the main one in Leawood.
The sermons are delivered by Senior Pastor Adam Hamilton. The Easter Sunday sermon in the series is “The Resurrection,” and April 7 is “Faith, Apostasy and Restoration.”
New Summit to
hold prayer vigil
New Summit Church in Lee’s Summit began 58 hours of continuous prayer for the prayer vigil, which began at 8 p.m. Thursday and will continue through 6:30 p.m. Easter.
An evening devotion with a family campout evening will be from Saturday until the sunrise service on Easter. Contact the church if you are interested.
On Easter, a sunrise service will be held at 6:30 a.m., and there are services at 9 and 10:30 a.m., followed by an Easter egg hunt at 11:30 a.m., which will happen rain or shine. Be sure to bring your baskets.
