  • When Diane Mack started Company of Champions as an offshoot of Jackson County Family Week, she really had no idea how many in the community would participate.
“We started at Bass Pro with 50 people the first year,” said the founder of Company of Champions and family week.
“The next time it was 75 and then he activity following was 270. At our last event at Blue Springs High School, there were more than 500 people.”
An association geared toward children adults and families who are living with a disability, Company of Champions meets four times a year. The goal is to help these individuals and families connect with resources and support.
The four events each year are a combination of Bingo Nights and other field trips. Mack said the Bingo nights are a great way for everyone to have a good time and win some much needed items at the same time.
The next event, Bingo Night, is at 6:30 p.m. April 24 at Blue Springs High School.
“It really is an unbelievable night. It is so huge,” she said. “It is truly wonderful what it has developed into. We collect items that children through adults need and everyone has a good time.”
Mack said Company of Champions is a direct result of finding families through family week who care for those with disabilities on a daily basis. The disability can be anything from developmental or brain injury to a result of aging. Through the organization’s website, families can get additional resources or support from people going through a similar situation. The idea is for families to be able to communicate easily, sharing successes or challenges, exchanging ideas and gaining insight from others.
“I get this really good feeling when I see everyone at these events,” Mack said. “These events are filling needs and providing other resources and support. It makes me very happy to see where this program has gone in such a short time.”
