  • Three singles victories couldn’t turn the tide for the Blue Springs boys tennis team.
    A solid Barstow team held on for a 5-4 victory over the Wildcats Wednesday at Baumgardner Park.
    Caleb Boyd (8-6), Brice Webb (8-0) and Greg Evans (8-3) triumphed in singles for the Wildcats (2-2). Boyd and Evans teamed up for an 8-4 doubles victory.
    “Barstow always has a very good team,” Blue Springs coach Jody McClain said. “All of our losses were tough. They’re learning a lot.”
    ST. JOSEPH TOURNAMENT: Paul Province and Alec Barber went 3-0 to take the No. 1 doubles title for Blue Springs South Wednesday.
    Lake Kinzel was second in No. 2 singles with a 2-1 record. Jared Martin and Nick Mandina were fourth in No. 2 doubles with a 1-2 showing and Brent Henderson went 2-1 to place fifth in No. 1 singles.
    “It was a good day for us this early in the season,” South coach Sheri Rehmer said. “Paul and Alec had tough matches playing a bunch of No. 1 teams.”
