  • Mary Schieszer, 88, of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away surrounded by her loving family at home.
    Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Leo Lawrence and Katherine (Pfister) Thiel, and brothers, Leo, George, and Louis Thiel. Mary attended Mercy Academy High School in Marshall, Mo. After graduation, Mary entered St. Mary’s School of Nursing and was a member of the Cadet Corp, graduating in 1946. Mary worked in several hospitals before becoming a Community Health Nurse for the Jackson County Health Department. She worked in that capacity for 36 years, retiring in 1991. Mary was presented the Harry S. Truman Award in recognition of her service at Truman Medical Center East. Mary was also recognized by the Missouri Board of Nursing for 50 years of nursing. Mary was very active in her parish church at St. John LaLande Catholic Church in Blue Springs, Mo., serving in the Altar Society Legion of Mary, and leading the Rosary at the early Sunday Mass. Mary volunteered her time and efforts with the Red Cross, Cancer Society, and as an election official. Mary enjoyed tending her flowers and shrubs, going to garage sales, watching “Jeopardy”, “Wheel of Fortune”, and Notre Dame Football.
    Mary was a loving, kind, and generous, wife and mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was always there for family and friends. She will be deeply missed and cherished by everyone who knew her.
    Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Charles (Pete) Schieszer; sons, Steve, Larry and wife, Carol, Lonnie, David and wife, Kerrie; brothers, Don Thiel and wife, Barbara, John Thiel and wife, Catherine; grandchildren, Kurt, Amanda, Alex, Daniel and Cole Schieszer; and many nieces and nephews.
    Visitation for Mary will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 8, with Rosary at 7 p.m., at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St., Blue Springs, 816-229-3276. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at St. John LaLande Catholic Church, 805 N.W. R.D. Mize Road, Blue Springs. Burial at Missouri Veteran Cemetery, Higginsville, Mo.
