  • The Independence Health Department is hosting a Regional Public Health Exercise on Thursday and is seeking volunteer individuals and families to help prepare and train for a public health emergency.
The exercise will be held at Fire Station 7 at 2206 Hub Drive (just south of Adventure Oasis Water Park).
Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to act as recipients of mock medications in the dispensing process. The first 100 volunteers to arrive will receive a gift card to a local restaurant, along with a free public health supply kit.
“During a public health emergency the IHD may open temporary medication dispensing sites to quickly provide medication to the public,” Public Health Emergency Response Planner Andrew Carpenter said. “The goal of this exercise is to test and practice our dispensing system.”
IHD will be evaluating several functions of the emergency plan, including notification, alert and supply requests and transport; culminating with the delivery and dispensing of supplies.
