Authorities are looking for a prisoner who escaped from Sugar Creek police officers around 12:30 p.m. Thursday in Kansas City.


Officers were taking Ryshod M. Mercer, 34, to the Jackson County Detention Center in Kansas City for an arraignment when he escaped in the area of Truman Road and Denver Avenue, according to the Sugar Creek Police Department.


Mercer was wearing hospital clothing and wore a leg cast and handcuffs, according to the department.


Mercer has a “large number” of misdemeanor and felony warrants from various police departments in the metro area.


He is considered dangerous and police warn he should not be approached by the public.
