For adults 55 and older, it's a great place to meet people and have fun.

I had the opportunity a few weeks ago to visit with the water color painting class, which meets at Vesper Hall on Thursday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. What a great group of residents who, without a teacher, practice their skills, help one another with new techniques, improvements to their techniques, or just learn how to paint with watercolors.

Several are accomplished painters while others are beginners. Some specialize in landscapes and others in portraits. What a great time they were having.
I was told about the wood carving class that meets on Wednesday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., in the same art and craft room. There are so many individuals involved that the room is no longer large enough.  Once again they learn from one another, and make it a social experience.

This morning I was there early for a meeting, at 7:30.  When I arrived there were already several men there waiting to get in the building.  I was curious why they were there this early when the programs don’t begin for hours.
I watched and found them all jockeying positions for what equipment they wanted to get on first in the fitness room.

This appears to be a routine for most of the men who all know one another and share their workout time together. Kind of like morning coffee for some folks.

There are so many wonderful things happening for our 55-plus-year-old residents at Vesper Hall. Every day, Monday through Friday there are programs, events, fitness and health functions, lunch, educational sessions, speakers, trips, and entertainment.

If you recently moved to the area and are 55 or older and looking to meet new people your age with your interests, Vesper Hall is a great place to start.  If you are looking to become a volunteer to assist others, again this is a great place to donate your time and make friends at the same time.

Check out the Good Times publication for various activities, times and days. Call 228-0181 for more information or to register for a program. The facility is at 400 N.W. Vesper St., next to Rotary Park at Railroad Lake.  The Vision Statement for Vesper Hall is “We Add Quality to Life,” and they really do!
