Citizens for Effective Leadership, an Independence organization with more than 30 years of active service to the community, recently voted to endorse the passage of the Aug. 3 ballot issue for the continuation of sales taxes that fund parks maintenance and stormwater control in Independence.

The organization’s board of directors voted unanimously to endorse the renewal of these programs.

“The renewal of these programs is critical for Independence to provide the quality of life (that) attracts young families seeking a community in which to put down roots,” CEL President Joyce Constance-White said. “There was a time when the flooding problem went unanswered due to the lack of funds, and parks were empty of children due to the lack of playground equipment.”
