A special dog was recognized on June 14 at St. Mary’s Medical Center for his volunteer service.

Bear, a therapy pet owned by Bill Kattner, is a fun loving shepherd and collie mix.  Bill and Bear are members of Pets for Life.

From 2005 – 2007 they visited Liberty Hospital, and from 2007 – 2010 they visited patients at St. Mary’s, giving joy and friendship to many patients.

St Mary’s Volunteer Coordinator, Lillian Ratcliff,  stated they will surely be missed and gave thanks and appreciation for their devoted service. Bill decided to retire Bear because he is 14 years old and is slowing down a bit.

He needs to relax and take it easy the rest of his life. Bill, who works for Ford Motor Company, also stated Bear has been a great stress relief after many rough worknights; he is always waiting at the front door for me, he is such a great friend.
