Authorities say a pedestrian was hit and killed on Interstate 70 on Monday night.

Officers said the crash happened about 8 p.m. at I-70 and Sterling Avenue, according to a report on kmbc.com.

Police shut down eastbound lanes so they could investigate. They re-opened the lanes two hours later, the report said.

Investigators have not determined why the man was on the freeway.

A Kansas City police media spokesman did not immediately return a message on Monday night and a KCPD dispatcher did not have any information on the crash.
