George E. Strauss, 78, of Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, October 27, 2008.

George was a life long area resident. AKA “The Mayor of Brookside.” He was born January 8, 1930, to George and Mary Strauss. He attended Rockhurst College and graduated from Central Missouri State.

George was preceded in death by his wife “Sugar Strauss” whom he was married to for 27 years. George retired from Missouri Housing Development Commission in August, 2000. He enjoyed retirement, spending his time with family and friends. All who knew him knew how he enjoyed his hammock, overlooking the traffic and friends who would pass by the “Strauss House” and wave or honk.

George is survived by his sons; Johnny of Kansas City, and Tim & Annette of Independence; and two wonderful grandchildren; Matthew and Maddie. He also leaves a sister, Rosemary and husband Charlie of Laurie, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 31, 10 a.m., at St. Peter Catholic Church, 6415 Holmes, Kansas City, MO, with burial following in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 30, at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO, from 5 to 7 p.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 1653, Topeka, KS, 66601, or to the St. Joseph Health Center Foundation, 1000 Carondelet Drive, Kansas City, MO, 64114.
