The Blue Springs Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit expanded both its personnel and its programs in 2008 – and the trend continues in 2009 with increased use of the department’s satellite office at 1620 Meadow Ridge Drive in the Villas of Autumn Bend.

Beginning Thursday, a Blue Springs crime prevention officer will be available for community questions, concerns or group training every Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m., and additional times may be scheduled by contacting the crime prevention unit. Capt. Anthony Modrell, commander of C.Y.O.U., stated: “This is a great opportunity for our residents to obtain services right in their own neighborhood.”

The Crime Prevention function, under the guidance of Sgt. Allen Kintz and Officer Doug Heishman, will offer future discussions featuring such topics as “How to protect yourself and your property,” “I.D. Theft Prevention,” and “Identifying Drug Activity.” Free brochures will be available for your information on personal safety, property protection and ensuring child safety.

Crime prevention officers can provide bicycle registration materials at the satellite locations to help you locate your property should it ever be stolen, as well as engrave identifying information on items such as iPods, GPS units or other valuables.

The office will be active, with the Blue Springs Police Department Citizen Academy Alumni group, Volunteers in Policing Service, and neighborhood watch groups utilizing the facility. In addition, on-duty patrol officers will have access to the location for meetings, timely interviews or training as needed.

The facility is graciously provided to the Police Department by the Villas of Autumn Bend as part of our ongoing community partnership and the Crime-Free initiative. The Villas of Autumn Bend are owned by Dalmark Development, LLC through Jim Nichols and overseen by Manager Paige Suits.

The Villas of Autumn Bend are in the first stage of training with the Police Department to become an active Crime-Free certified community. The Blue Springs Crime-Free initiative focuses on active management processes from the application process, daily security improvement, lease adherence and crime prevention activities to ensure the neighborhood has a high quality of life.

The Blue Springs Police Crime Prevention Unit welcomes the opportunity to meet with residents or provide a speaker for your organization. Please call Sergeant Allen Kintz at 816 228-0178 to make arrangements for your group or for individual questions.
