Farrel Duane Douglas, age 75, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

Farrel was born in Kansas City, Mo. August 18, 1933 to Melvin and Edith (Jones) Douglas. Farrel was united in marriage to Mary Louise Allinder on November 26, 1955. The family home is in Independence.

Following his father in the trade, he was a member of Pipefitters Local Union 533. For 56 years he served the union in many elected offices, but his passion was for education. He faithfully shared his knowledge with apprentices as an instructor at the Training Center. He was a member of the Maywood Baptist Church in Independence and served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for 14 years.

Farrel was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Louise; son Duane and his wife Robin, and their children Luke and Madison; son Scott, former daughter in law Marilyn, and their children Zachary and Presley; and daughter Karen and her husband Jeff Richardson and their son Colton. And a host of family and loved ones.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 3:00pm at Maywood Baptist Church, 10505 E Winner Rd. Independence, Mo 64052. Life celebration service will begin at 4:30 pm.  Graveside service will be held at 11am on Monday March 2, 2009 at South Point Cemetery in Orrick, Mo.
