LaVerne Faye Smith Sturman

LaVerne Faye Smith Sturman was born in Camden, Mo. on March 24, 1930 to Maurice and Mary Smith. She grew up in Missouri with her three sisters, and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1947. In 1950 she married Melvin Sturman and together raised seven children. She retired from the department of Agriculture in 1990.
Mrs. Sturman passed away at her home on May 23 at the age of 79.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred; daughter, Brenda Schick; and husband Melvin.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Irene and Marjorie; daughters and their husbands, Sheila and Duane Seager, Cheryl and Gerardo Torresvalle, Denise Stephens and Ron Smith; daughter, Sylvia Nitsitakeua; sons and their wives, David Sr. and Kielee Sturman, Daniel and Laura Sturman; and son-in-laws, Dennis Schick and James Bartholome. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Centropolis Community Church, 8001 N. Oak Trafficway, Kansas City, Mo. Pastor Nite officiating. Faye’s final resting place will be at Higginsville Veterans Cemetery. Remembrances may be sent to 17401 E. 21st St N., Independence, MO 64058.
