Roy “Neal” Mitchell, 56, of Independence, Missouri, passed away June 20, 2011.

Funeral service will be at 12 p.m., Saturday, June 25, 2011, at DW Newcomer’s Sons Noland Road Chapel, Independence. Burial to follow in Brooking Cemetery, Raytown. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday at the Funeral Home.

Neal was born December 11, 1954, in Independence, Missouri, to Roy and Dorothy Mitchell. He was a motorcycle enthusiast as well as a gardener and being outdoors. He loved to travel and 5 times a year would take a road trips. He loved music, especially the blues and was the ultimate practical joker. Neal was a part-time reserve police officer for 8 years with the Village of Claycomo and retired from the Independence Fire Department after 31 years of service, working his way up to the rank of Captain.  He was a member of Firefighters Local #781 Independence and was a wonderful father and caregiver.

He is preceded into death by his parents.

Neal is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; 3 children, Jessica L. Maucelli of Independence, MO, Anthony P. Maucelli of Kansas City, MO, and Jacob T. Maucelli of Kansas City, MO; 1 sister; Kathy Keller and her husband, Ralph, of Kansas City, MO; and 1 granddaughter, Alexis Britz.
