  • The city of Independence has announced the speaker for the 38th annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast in November.
    William F. High, chief executive officer of the Olathe, Kan.-based National Christian Foundation Heartland, will speak at the breakfast. It’s at 6:30 a.m. Nov. 15 at the Laurel Club, Community of Christ Auditorium, 1001 W. Walnut St.
    Before his appointment as CEO, High served as the foundation’s president and general counsel since 2000. He works with families, individual givers and financial advisers, sharing the foundation’s message about biblical generosity and charitable giving. A graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law, High also was a partner with the law firm of Blackwell Sanders LLP.
    To purchase tickets for the breakfast, contact Kim Osborne at kosborne@indepmo.org or call 816-325-7027. Individual tickets are $10, and reserved tables of eight are $80. Seating and table placement are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
    Reservations and checks (made payable to Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast) can be mailed to Osborne at 111 E. Maple, Independence, MO 64050. The deadline for reservations is by 5 p.m. Nov. 5.
