Hursel B. “Speedy” Hurt, 91, of Independence, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012.  

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 26, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Mount Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Vitas Hospice, 4041 S. Lynn Court Drive No. 300, Independence, MO 64055.

Speedy was born Sept. 4, 1921, in Ozark County, Mo., to Elmer and Alma (Seivert) Dunnegan. She and her husband, Bill, have lived in Independence most of their lives and bowled in leagues at the Strike n’ Spare on 40 Highway for many years. She also enjoyed helping in the family vegetable garden. She was a member of Fairmount Christian Church since 1965. Speedy was preceded in death by three sisters and seven brothers.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Bill Hurt, of the home; nieces, Linda Mesh and husband, Mike, Louisburg, Kan., Janice Locke, Mountain Grove, Mo., Marsha Brown, Theodesha, Mo., and June Carrender, Kingsburg, Calif.; and several other nieces and nephews.
