Kathleen Frances Newcom, 88, St. Joseph, Missouri, formerly of Cameron, passed away on December 18, 2008 at the Living Community of St. Joseph, Missouri.

Kathleen was born on January 19, 1920 on the family farm in Stewartsville, Missouri to Earl and Henrietta (Weitlich) Piepergerdes. She was a graduate of Osborn High School and attended Chillicothe Business College. Kathleen married Maynard Newcom on January 1, 1941, from this union came two sons, Darwin and Barry. She and Maynard loved traveling and visited most of the 50 states by travel trailer or motor home. Kathleen and Maynard spent most of their married life living in Iowa and Missouri. They moved to Heritage House, Independence, MO in March 1984, where she lived until December 2007. While at Heritage House, Kathleen was editor of The Informer in addition to serving as historian and photographer. Kathleen was a life-long Member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Maynard on June 14, 1995 and son, Barry on May 7, 1976.

Kathleen is survived by one son, Darwin Newcom and wife, Judith, Albuquerque, NM; daughter-in-law, Una Dulcan and husband, Denis, St. Joseph, MO; four grandchildren, Eric Newcom, Jacksonville, FL, Ashli (Mike) Hanlan, St. Joseph, MO, Montgomery (Erica) Newcom, Carlsbad, CA and Meredith Newcom, Ventura, CA ; four great-grandchildren; Nicklaus and Zachry Hanlan, Kristian Newcom and Holden Newcom; two brothers, Darrel Piepergerdes, Bartlesville, OK and Lawrence Piepergerdes, Independence, MO; sister-in-law, Barbara (Trowbridge) Newcom, widow of Kenneth Newcom, Lee's Summit, MO; brothers-in-law, Barney (Jean) Newcom, Prairie Village, KS and Jennings (Cherry) Newcom, Westminster, CO; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services: 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Poland-Thompson Chapel, Cameron. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 AM, prior to the service. Burial: Cameron Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to South Crysler Restoration Branch, 16101 E. Salisbury Road, Independence, MO 64050-2267 and/or Camp Farwesta, Stewartsville, MO.
