A different system of personal tax assessment will be used for the first time this year by the Independence branch of the county assessor’s office. Under the new method, personal tax forms will be mailed out instead of having a deputy assessor visit each home. “This new system will save the county about $10,000 to $12,000 annually,” William C. Turner, chief clerk of the Independence office said.
