Dorothy Sue Wells was born on April 18, 1920, in Aurora, Missouri, to Kathryn Jester Wells and Dr. John Lyle Wells, DVM.  She died on May 18 , 2011, in Atlanta, Georgia.

She grew up in Blue Springs, Missouri, and graduated from the University of Missouri in 1941.  While there, she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority, elected to Mortar Board and a member of the student body governing board.  She married James Boone Bartholomees on May 29, 1942, in Highland Falls, New York, the day he graduated from the United States Military Academy. They had been married 56 years, when Jim died in 1998.  After moving throughout the US and Germany during Jim’s 30 years of active duty in the U.S. Army, they settled in Fayetteville, NC in 1972,  where Sue was active in many civic organizations, including the DAR, the Red Cross, Pine Needles and Flora MacDonald garden clubs and St. John’s Episcopal Church.  

She is survived by their son, James Boone Bartholomees, Jr. (Col. USA ret.), and his wife, Sharon, and their daughter, Kathryn B. McCloud and her husband, Robert O. McCloud, Jr.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and her brother, John Lyle Wells, Jr., and a niece and a nephew.  Six grandchildren, James Boone Bartholomees, III, Sara B. Betz, Dorothy B. Armstrong, Lyle O. McCloud, Stewart W. McCloud, Kathryn M. Fellows; eight great-grandchildren, Alexandra W. Bartholomees, James B. Bartholomees IV, Kate A. Bartholomees, Luke B. Bartholomees; Jackson B. Betz, Louisa A. Betz, Charles H. Betz; and Adelyn L. Armstrong.

She will be interred in the columbarium under the Old Cadet Chapel at West Point, NY, with her husband.
