Kathryn (Kay) Pistillo, 87, of Independence, MO passed away on August 23, 2008.

Born April 24, 1921, Kathryn spent her early years in or near Bynumville, MO. After her marriage to Elwood Church and birth of her first daughter, Barbara, she moved to Kansas City, where she had her second daughter, Judy. She worked several years as a cosmetics salesperson for Katz Drug Company and Pecks Department Store.

Kay spent many years in Blue Springs, MO, with her husband of nearly 50 years, Mike Pistillo, who passed away in 1998. There she scoured garage sales and collected multiple items, including dolls of all kinds. At one time she had over 4000 dolls in her collection. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, caring for grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her family or friends and supported all of them unconditionally without judgment.

She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Barbara Schneider of Independence, MO, and Judy Barr of Casper, Wyoming; her brother, Larry Hammons and his wife, Linda from Marceline, MO; grandchildren, Chris Van Camp and her husband, Jason of Lee’s Summit, MO; Greg Barr and his wife, Cheryl of Casper, WY; and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Michael Marquez, Josh and Justin Van Camp, and Jarrett and Braden Barr.

She leaves behind many loving friends and helpful staff from Wilshire Nursing Home and Vitas Hospice Care. The family would like to thank all of them for their kindness.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. with memorial service at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 29, at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City, 816-353-1218. Burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
