The school is named after James Walker, a local landowner in the area.
Where: 201 S.E. Sunnyside School Road.
Principal: Greg Johnson.
Population: 470 students and 48 certified teachers.
History: The school is named after James Walker, a local landowner in the area. The opening of the school was delayed because of a bricklayers strike in 1977, Johnson said. Students were sent to other schools in Blue Springs, and the school officially opened on Oct. 10, 1977. The building was dedicated on Oct. 27, 1977.
What’s happening: Johnson said the PTA held a Walk-A-Thon Fundraiser that was a good opportunity for the students. He said school staff continues to work with students using a Response To Intervention Model. The BackSnack Program also is an important part of helping families and students in partnership with Harvesters and Woods Chapel United Methodist Church.
What makes the school special?
“James Walker has a close network of teachers and staff dedicated to seeing their students succeed.” – Johnson.
