Police arrested 10 people over the weekend for driving while intoxicated at a sobriety checkpoint in Independence.
The Independence Police Traffic Safety Unit along with officers from the Jackson County Traffic Safety Task Force conducted the checkpoint along northbound Noland Road at Lynn Court in Independence from 11 p.m. Friday until 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
During the hours of operation 692 cars were checked resulting in the arrests of 10 people for outstanding arrest warrants, three for no valid driver’s license, three for  liquor violations, one for possession of narcotics and one for endangering the welfare of a child. Four people were arrested for various other traffic violations.
The checkpoint was staffed by 21 Independence police officers, eight Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputies, four Grain Valley officers and two police officers from Sugar Creek.
