A former player with the Kansas City Chiefs will not be charged in an accident that killed a Grain Valley woman.
“No charges will be filed in this case,” said Velda Cook, spokesperson for the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office. “The accident was deemed accidental.”
The accident between Rich Baldinger, 49, of Blue Springs, and Marilyn Walters, 61, occurred just after 2 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of U.S. 40 and Bowlin Road in Blue Springs. The 2001 Saturn, driven by Jerry L. Walters, 60, of Grain Valley was traveling east on U.S. 40 when it was broadsided by Baldinger’s 2009 Dodge.
Marilyn Walters later died at Centerpoint Medical Center. Jerry Walters received minor injuries, and a second passenger, Christina L. Hainley, 29, of Pleasant Hill, Mo. received moderate injuries.
Baldinger was not injured.
