Irene Crawford died Feb. 21, 2009
Irene (Chamberlain-Phillips) Crawford, 72, passed away Feb. 21, 2009 in Harrisonville, MO.
Irene was born in Green County near Lorado, AR June 28, 1936. She was the fifth of twelve children. Irene accepted the Lord at an early age and actively served for many years at Sycamore Hills Baptist Church in Independence and later at Broadway Baptist Church in Oak Grove, MO. She joined the First Baptist Church of Harrisonville in Aug. 2005.
Irene was united in marriage Aug. 19, 1956 to Bobby Jo Phillips. To this union two children were born: Debbie and Pam. Irene married Wilbert Crawford on Oct. 13, 1979.
Irene graduated from McCormick High School in 1955 and from Executive Secretary Business School in Aug. 1956. She received her LPN Degree in Feb. 1966 from K.C. General Hospital. She started her nursing career at St. Joseph Hospital. She served as a doctors’ office nurse for eight years and Executive Secretary at Butler Mfg. Co. for eleven years. She later worked at the Blue Springs Dialysis Center and Blue Springs Care Center before serving fifteen years as a Charge Nurse at John Knox Care Center. She retired in 1988.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Vera Chamberlain; daughter Debbie (Phillips) Reed; husband Bobby Jo Phillips; brothers Charles Chamberlain, Billie Chamberlain and sister Patsy Burrows. Surviving are her husband Wilbert Crawford; daughter Pamela Kanies and husband Tim; brothers James Chamberlain and wife Vera; Ronnie Chamberlain, Eugene Chamberlain; sisters Lou Taylor; Virginia Chamberlain; Lois Gosney; Sherry Dement; Teresa South; step-daughters Kathryn Crawford; Deborah Raygo and husband George; grandchildren Brenden, Bryant, Rebecca and Brock Kanies and Aaron, Ryan and Joshua Raygo. Irene’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and playing with her grandchildren.
Services will be 7 pm, Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 at Speaks Chapel. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 10 am, Friday at Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. Arrangements: Speaks Suburban Chapel.
