Examiner High School Boys Athlete of the Week for Feb. 25: Luke Greco

EXAMINER BOYS HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

LUKE GRECO
SPORT: Wrestling
CLASS: Senior
SCHOOL: Blue Springs
HIGHLIGHTS: The Wildcats’ senior 130-pounder was dominant in the Class 4 Missouri State High School Wrestling Championships, surrendering just one point for the entire tournament – in his 2-1 win over Aaron Wagner of Fort Zumwalt West – while capturing his first state title and leading Blue Springs to the third-place team trophy.
COMMENT: “I think it shows he was able to control the tempo of all his matches,” Wildcats coach Mike Hagerty said of Greco allowing only one point. “He wrestled his style and kept points down. I didn’t even notice until someone told me going into the finals. It’s a pretty phenomenal feat. We’ve had a lot of state champions, but I don’t know if we’ve had any give up only one point for a state tournament. That’s pretty cool stuff.”
