What advice do you have for next year’s freshmen?
Find at least one activity you enjoy early on in high school. It will help you make a lot of lifelong friends and will make school easier. Try a lot of different things early on and figure out what works for you. Don’t be afraid of challenging activities and courses, no matter what others tell you.
Who was your favorite teacher and why?
Ms. Christine Adams. I had many excellent teachers, but spending four years in Ms. Adams’ debate classroom was the best decision I’ve ever made. Ms. Adams is the type of teacher who is always there for her students. She strives to have her students become not only excellent debaters, but good citizens as well.
When you were not in school or studying, what did you most enjoy doing?
A lot of my free time was devoted to the activities I was involved in. I met a lot of great people along the way, and I wouldn’t change it for anything. I also spend a lot of time watching and attending sporting games, particularly the Royals.
What college do you plan to attend and why?
I plan to study biology at Truman State University this fall. TSU offers a humble and academically engaging atmosphere. The faculty and students are welcoming, and there is a lot to do on campus. I was also blessed to receive the General John J. Pershing Scholarship.
What do you see yourself doing 10 years from now?
In 10 years, I hope to have completed medical school and be a medical resident in a primary care specialty.
