Absentee ballots are now available for the Nov. 2 general election.

The election will decide Congressional and Missouri General Assembly seats, several statewide offices and Jackson County Legislature seats, as well as several constitutional amendments and propositions.

The deadline to register to vote in November is Oct. 6.

Those who need to vote absentee can obtain an absentee ballot through the local election board or by mail. Applications also are available at http://www.GoVoteMissouri.com.

In Eastern Jackson County, the Jackson County Election Board is at 215 N. Liberty St., Independence, Mo. 64050.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27. Ballots must be returned to the local election authority by 5 p.m. Nov. 1.

First-time voters must provide identification to the Election Board before obtaining an absentee ballot.

Voters may cast absentee ballots if they are confined because of illness or physical disability; if they are a caregiver for such a person; because of religious belief or practice; or if they will be absent from their voting location on election day.
