Ashton Nibert of St. Mary’s will go into Saturday’s state finals in the 400 meters as the odds-on favorite.
Nibert turned in the fastest time in Friday’s 400 preliminaries to earn a berth in the finals at the Class 2 Missouri State High School Track and Field Championships at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.
Nibert’s time of 58.42 seconds was almost a second better than her sectional winning time of 59.53 and was more than a second and a half faster than the No. 2 seed, Amelia Wallace of Louisiana, Mo.
That was the Trojans’ only success on Friday. The 1,600 relay team that included Nibert, Angela Mancuso, Heather Tripp and Laura Stark failed to advance after being scratched.
The 800 relay team of Nibert, Mancuso, Tripp and Alexis Sirna did not advance after finishing 16th in 1:53.20.
In the high jump, Jessica Holder finished 16th at 4 feet, 6 inches.
