Jim Pierce, 79, of Independence, Mo., passed away on Monday, May 26, 2008.

Jim was born on May 24, 1929 to Lyle W. and Ruth (Zwahlen) Pierce and grew up in Appleton City, Mo. He was united in marriage to Eunice Lewellen on June 14, 1950. Jim served in the Army in Korea with the 24th Infantry. He worked for 31 years in the mechanical department at Armco Steel. He volunteered with his wife, Eunice, for 20 years with Habitat for Humanity in the Bronx, NY, Boston, Mass., Baltimore, Md., and Central Seminary in Kansas City, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Pierce-Smith, father, Lyle Pierce, and step-father, Vince Smith.

Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eunice; children, Dennis and wife, Lisa Pierce, Dale and wife, Terrie Pierce, Donna and husband, Robert Bartley; brother, Joe and wife, Dorothy Pierce; grandchildren, Amie and husband, Jeremy Williams, Mandy and husband, Mike Fiechtner, Brad Pierce, Lauren Pierce, Ryan Autry, and Joshua Autry; and great-grandson, Luke Williams.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at Meyers Funeral Chapel, Blue Springs, 816-229-3276. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, at Crossroads Church of Kansas City, Kansas City, Mo. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
