  • Firefighters hold golf tournament to raise money for scholarships

  • Independence Local 781 of the International Association of Firefighters recently awarded four $1,000 scholarships to one graduate from each of the four public high schools in Independence.

  • Independence Local 781 of the International Association of Firefighters recently awarded four $1,000 scholarships to one graduate from each of the four public high schools in Independence.
    The recipients were Joshua Gilliland from Chrisman, Scott Sickles from Truman, Brittney Edison from Van Horn and Victoria Reppond from Fort Osage. The scholarship recipients are motivated students who have chosen a career in the protective services or the medical field. Local 781 also donated $1,500 to the Community Services League’s adopt a family program.
    Union members raised these funds for these awards through their annual golf tournament.
