  • The Kansas City Cappies recognizes excellence in the theater arts by high school students throughout the Kansas City metro area.
    More than 100 students, from 14 high schools wrote more than 500 theatrical reviews in preparation for nominating students in 38 award categories for the 11th annual Kansas City Cappies Gala, held June 1 at Grandview High School.
    The following area students received 2013 Kansas City Cappies Awards.
    • Lighting - Kelsey Lewis, Blue Springs South, “Les Miserables.”
    • Female Dancer - Jordan Patterson, Lee’s Summit West, “Legally Blonde.”
    • Featured Actress in a Musical - Bria Jones, Lee’s Summit High School, “9 to 5: The Musical.”
    • Supporting Actor in a Play - Reuben Hoyle, Blue Springs South, “Les Miserables.”
    • Lead Actor in a Play - Daniel Verschelden, Lee’s Summit High School, “On the Razzle.”
    • Lead Actress in a Musical - Courtney Shanholtzer, Lee’s Summit West, “Legally Blonde.”
    • Ensemble in a Play - Mimes, Summit Christian Academy, “Comedy of Errors.”
    • Female Critic - Haley Weatherford, Blue Springs South.
    • Male Critic - Preston Hereford, Lee’s Summit West.
