The excessive heat has caused several area schools to postpone sports activities set for today and Thursday.

The excessive heat has caused several area schools to postpone sports activities set for today and Thursday.


Most of today's area girls golf and girls tennis matches have been postponed because the heat index has reached nearly 100 degrees. Some of the softball games have been postponed, and the soccer schedule has been modified.


The William Chrisman tennis match against Blue Springs at Young Park has been postponed until Sept. 21. Blue Springs South's tennis match at Lee's Summit West also was postponed but there is no makeup date as of yet.


Truman's golf match against Liberty and Liberty North at Liberty Hills Country Club has been moved to Sept. 13. Blue Springs' match against Lee's Summit at Shamrock Hills, Blue Springs South's match against Notre Dame de Sion at Lakewood Oaks and Fort Osage's match against Grandview at River Oaks also were postponed.


The Blue Springs softball game at Blue Springs South has been postponed. No makeup date has been scheduled.


The schedule for the Tiger/Bronco/Titan Soccer Classic at Lee's Summit, Lee's Summit North and Lee's Summit West today has been modified. Halves will be reduced from 40 to 35 minutes with mandatory water/rest breaks at the 20-minute mark of each half. Additional breaks will be available at the discretion of coaches, officials and administrators. William Chrisman plays O'Hara at 6 p.m. and Lee's Summit West plays St. Thomas Aquinas at 7:45 at West. Lee's Summit North meets Raytown at 6 p.m. at North, and Lee's Summit plays Belton at 7:15 at Lee's Summit.


Blue Springs South soccer will play varsity only against Kearney at 7 p.m. today at South's Larry Stewart Memorial Stadium.


Blue Springs South has already postponed the girls tennis match against Liberty and the girls golf match against Blue Springs that were scheduled for Thursday. The Jaguars boys soccer match at Raymore-Peculiar will be varsity only at 7 p.m.
