Dr. Raymond Gene Williamson, 78, of Grain Valley, Mo., passed away April 25, 2013, at the Vitas Hospice Facilities, Kansas City.

Dr. Raymond Gene Williamson, 78, of Grain Valley, Mo., passed away April 25, 2013, at the Vitas Hospice Facilities, Kansas City.

Raymond Gene was born in Boynton, Mo., March 8, 1935, but has lived in Independence and Grain Valley most of his adult life. Dr. Williamson was a life-long educator, working as Dean for the Independence campus of Central Missouri State University, and as Dean of Continuing Education for University of Missouri-Kansas City for 18 years before his retirement. He had an immense passion for teaching and has truly been a lifelong leaner and educator. Ray was also City Councilman, 3rd district in Independence. After retirement, he spent several years collecting and selling antiques.

Ray is survived by his ex-wife, Doris Williamson of Grain Valley; children: Brian Williamson, Bruce Williamson and Brenda Jones, all of Grain Valley. Grandchildren: Bradley Williamson, Julie Long and Hunter Jones,  Great-Grandkids:  Noah Williamson and Memphis Long.

Ray is loved and will be missed by many family members, friends and the many students whose lives he touched.

Visitation is Sunday, April 28 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m, with a Memorial Service following at 6:00 at Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 30000 Valor Dr., Grain Valley. Burial in Swan Lake Memorial Park, Grain Valley.
