Demetrius Harbour killed his girlfriend Lynn Kelly in 2008.

A judge Wednesday sentenced Demetrius Harbour to 20 years in prison for the killing of his girlfriend in 2008.

The 45-year-old Independence man must serve 17 years or 85 percent of the sentence before he is eligible for parole, said Jackson County Assistant Prosector Traci Stansell.
Prosecutors asked Jackson County Circuit Judge John Torrence for a life sentence, Stansell said.

A Jackson County jury in February found Harbour guilty of second-degree murder.
Lynn Kelly, 32, his girlfriend and mother of two, was strangled and her head was smashed with a baseball bat at her home on the 18000 block of Manor Drive just outside of Independence on Aug. 14, 2008.
