It’s almost over, all the political hoopla. Negative ads, positive ads ... good, bad, good, bad. But vote anyway.

To the editor:

It’s almost over, all the political hoopla. Negative ads, positive ads ... good, bad, good, bad. But vote anyway. Don’t not vote because you don’t like either candidate. Be proud of who you are; I am. I’m a Democrat, now and forever ’til death makes me part. I’m proud to say “I’m from Independence, the home of Harry S. Truman, the 33rd president of the United States.” A lot of people say that and don’t vote. Others capitalize on the Dems, but do not vote that way. Harry is turning and churning.

Now that you are inspired to stand in line and wear an “I voted” sticker, but remain a little wishy-washy, let me help with at least one deciding factor. "Earmarks.” Simply put, Robin Carnahan is against them. She would like to see no pay raises in Congress until the budget is balanced. Mr. Blunt voted for their increases. Have you had a raise lately? No brain surgery here.

Harry might say “Missouri is going to the dogs,” but I’m hopeful. I throw the challenge to my fellow party members, to be counted, be proud, show our strength and vote!

I’m taking my walk around the Square now. Hope to see you there.
