A man’s body found in an Independence creek over the weekend has been identified as a Kansas City man who had  been reported missing on Jan. 19.

Eric W. Hedrick, 35, was identified on Monday, said Independence Police spokesman Tom Gentry.

On Saturday, police were called to the 700 block of West Jones Street in north central Independence because someone had discovered a body in a creek bed there. The location is at Mill Creek Park, with residences nearby.

Gentry said officers found the body, which was in a state of decomposition. There was no identification but no obvious sign of foul play. The medical examiner’s office released the man’s identity Monday.

Gentry said police returned to the area Monday and are still investigating.
