Independence Mayor Don Reimal and Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders plan to flip the switch on the holiday season today.

The lighting ceremony is at  6 p.m. at the Truman Courthouse on the Independence Square.

Activities begin at 2 p.m. with strolling caroleres, “living windows” around the Square, a Kids Winter Wonderland, sleigh rides and a visit from Santa Claus.

A program emceed by Oldies 95 radio personality Dick Wilson begins at 5 p.m. The fourth grade choir from Bryant Elementary will sing. There’s a North Pole mailbox for children to send letters to Santa. At about 5:45, Sanders will read “‘Twas the Night before Christmas.”
