Chapel Lakes Elementary, a part of the Blue Springs School District, opened in 1991.

Name: Chapel Lakes Elementary

Where: 3701 N.E. Independence Ave.,

Lee’s Summit

Principal: Jason Woolf

Opened: Chapel Lakes, which is in the Blue Springs School District, opened in 1991. Recent additions and renovations were made to the building in 2009.

Population: There are currently 423 students and 31 teachers.

Fun Facts: The building was named after Woods Chapel Road, which is near the school, along with all of the lakes in the surrounding area such as Blue Springs Lake, Lake Jacomo and Lakewood. Woolf said each year the PTA provides students with fun activities such as fall/winter parties, a back-to-school dance, trunk-r-treat and a carnival. He said the teachers also participate in some of these activities even if that means dressing up in costumes, or acting silly, to make it an enjoyable time for the kids.

What’s Happening: Although there is nothing “new” this year, Woolf said the school is continuing with some of the same things that students have enjoyed over the years. This includes Hot Chocolate Cafe, a monthly after-school reading club, second grade parent/child book club, Math Club, Ringers and Singers, Computer Art Club, Boys and Girls Intramurals, Attendance Club, Student Council and Caring Crew, a club where a few fourth grade students interact/play with students with disabilities

What makes Chapel Lakes special?

“No question, our school community. We have an outstanding and caring staff, our parents are extremely supportive of our school and educational process, and we have some of the greatest kids which make the learning environment safe and positive for everyone.”

– Jason Woolf, principal
