  • An adult day care facility will soon be coming to Blue Springs. The Blue Springs Planning Commission approved the conditional use permit for Almost Home Adult Day Care Monday.
The facility, 3605 N.W. Valley View Place, will be occupying a former child day care facility, which has been vacant for more than a year. James Holley, assistant director of community development, said a conditional use permit was not in place for the property because the child care facility predated code requirements.
The facility will have three employees, including a Licensed Practical Nurse, and will operate from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. City staff did request that the existing parking area be restriped in order for customers to identify parking spaces more easily and that if the facility chose to get a trash bin, that they construct an enclosure with materials compatible with the primary building.
“There is no trash enclosure currently on the property, so we are assuming that they will take care of most of the trash inside,” Holley said. “If they intend to store trash outside, then they will need the enclosure.”
Lynn Banks said she was pleased with the approval of the permit.
“I am glad to see something came into that facility,” she said. “It has been vacant for over a year.”
The commission also approved a master/alternative sign plan that amends the existing sign plan for McCarthy Blue Springs Hyundai. The car dealership plans to replace the existing pole sign and add an additional canopy sign. A pole sign proposed was 45 feet tall, which is 10 feet over the maximum height for pole signs.
The commission’s approval restricts the sign to 35 feet and also requires that the pole sign be landscaped three feet out from the base of the sign.
