The GFWC Nu-Era Study Club, member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, will meet at 10 a.m. Oct. 6 at Bird’s Botanicals in cave at 8201 E. 23rd St., Independence, for a tour of the orchid growing facility.

Betty Gember will serve as hostess. Roll call will be answered by giving Missouri facts provided by President Margaret Carnahan. Myla Gentry will present a program on Missouri Day, which is observed the third Wednesday in October.

Kathy Palermo will report on Missouri Girls Town Opera House, which will be Oct. 2.

Members are urged to wear purple in observance of Domestic Violence Month (October). They will also be turning in their nut orders to Gail Jones, fundraising chairman for the club. Following the meeting and tour, the group will convene for lunch at the Courthouse Exchange on the Square in Independence.

A volunteer project for club members will be packing Iraqi school supplies from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 26.
