Chad Stohlmann (10-6), Mitchell Wilhoit (10-6), Caleb Boyd (10-4), Brice Webb (10-6) and Greg Evans (10-4) all garnered solid singles wins, but it was No. 4 player Sam Phillips who drew the biggest praise from coach Jody McClain. Phillips fell behind 9-8 and faced four match points before battling back and taking an 11-9 decision.

“He showed a lot of determination,” McClain said.

In doubles, Stohlmann and Webb (10-4), Wilhoit and Phillips (10-4) and Boyd and Evans (10-3) added wins.

“It was a good match and a good way to start out and get a win,” McClain said.
