Oak Grove golfer Bryce Mercer had a career-best round in the season-opening Oak Grove Invitational.

His team and Grain Valley didn’t do as well, however.

Mercer fired a career-best 80 to tie for fourth place but the Panthers totaled 406 to finish seventh in the eight-team field Thursday at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs.

Grain Valley, led by 15th-place 89s by Hunter Peterson and Kevin Gover, finished sixth with a 370 total.

Quin Bunyar took 14th for Oak Grove with an 88, including a 40 on the back nine. Justin Driver (95, 25th) and Cameron Skinner (97, 26th) completed the scoring for Grain Valley.

Pleasant Hill claimed the team title with a 332, while O’Hara’s Tanner Bainbridge fired an even-par 72 to take medalist honors.
