Two weeks ago, the number of online registrations for the second annual Independence Park Trot reached 1,000 participants, but the free Independence Health Department 5K run/walk is still seeking more registrations. Visit www.independenceparktrot.com for more information.

The rain-or-shine race is at 8 a.m. May 4 at Waterfall Park, just south of Bass Pro Shops. There is no limit on the number of participants.

In-person registration, as well as packet pick-up, will be available the afternoon of May 3 at Bass Pro Shops and from 7 to 7:45 a.m. May 4 near the start of the course.

A parent or legal guardian must sign a waiver form for participants younger than age 18 who wish to participate in the race. T-shirts will be available for $4.50 each for children and regular adult sizes on the race website.

The event is a certified 5K as part of the Building a Healthier Independence initiative. Contact Christina Heinen, Building a Healthier Independence project coordinator, at 816-325-7996 for more information.
