Adults 21 years old and older are currently being recruited for a youth-serving organization to serve as big brothers, big sisters or a big couple. Strengthen the core services of a Kansas City area agency devoted to enriching the quality of family, spiritual, social, mental and physical well-being by becoming a volunteer! Greeters and child care assistants are needed at their center in Blue Springs. Looking for a group project? A community kitchen in downtown Kansas City is looking for a few additional groups to help prepare food once a month. The group of 4-12 individuals will work together one afternoon, evening or night for two hours to prepare fruits and vegetables for the next day’s lunch. The prep groups are needed every day except Fridays and Saturdays. Volunteers can begin after 3 p.m. Agency monitor volunteers are needed at Kansas City area food bank. These volunteers will be inspecting agencies to ensure they meet standards for safe food handling and other regulatory compliance. The organization will provide a three-day training course covering safe food handling and agency orientation. Volunteers should be able to commit a half-day per week. Mileage reimbursement is provided. Join the “Friends for Seniors” program sponsored by one of the area Shepherd’s Centers! The program staff will screen and train volunteers to provide friendship and companionship to seniors. Some of the activities that a “friend” may do include sharing a meal, writing cards and letters, shopping, or visiting with them. Make sure Kansas City area families don’t miss out at tax time! Volunteers are needed a few hours a week from January through April 15 at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites throughout the area. The VITA program offers free tax help to low and moderate-income families. No experience is necessary; however, computer and tax knowledge is a plus. Training will be provided. Flexible day, evening and weekend hours are available.
