“Our defense looked much better and in sync this game,” Truman coach Jared Byrne said. “We attacked and created a lot of chances. Wallace had some clinical finishes to put the game away.”

Truman fell to the host team 4-2 last Saturday.

“It’s tough to open the season with a loss, but Liberty is a very strong team this year,” Byrne said.

VAN HORN 1, SAVANNAH 0: Van Horn opened the season by edging Savannah in the first round of the Winnetonka Tournament at Staley High School.

Jose Rojas, on Roland Mejia’s assist, scored the only goal Van Horn needed in the 67th minute. Keeper Matt Summey recorded the shutout.

“It was ugly,” Van Horn coach Chris Corrie said. “We started seven sophomores, but we showed signs we have some potential.”
