Obama continues to vilify the wealthy and embrace the Occupy thugs who are vandalizing cities, living in unsanitary tent camps that breed disease and rats, and invoking violence with the police. He continues to stir the pot of divisive politics by declaring the rich are not paying their fair share. So what is fair?

To the editor:

Obama continues to vilify the wealthy and embrace the Occupy thugs who are vandalizing cities, living in unsanitary tent camps that breed disease and rats, and invoking violence with the police. He continues to stir the pot of divisive politics by declaring the rich are not paying their fair share. So what is fair?

The National Taxpayers Union, a non-partisan advocate for taxpayers, states that in 2009 the top 1 percent paid 37 percent of the taxes, the top 5 percent paid 59 percent, the top 10 percent paid 70 percent, and the top 25 percent paid 87 percent of taxes. Let me repeat that: The top 25 percent of taxpayers (the wealthy) paid 87 percent of the taxes, and the remaining 75 percent of American taxpayers paid only 13 percent of the taxes. How can anyone not find that fair? The top 25 percent not only provide most of the jobs in our country, they carry the bulk of the tax burden.

It seems to me the top 25 percent are paying their fair share, but the bottom 50 percent are digging into the pockets of the middle class for their government payday. How is that fair?
