The Independence Animal Shelter experienced higher rates of adoptions for both cats and dogs in 2011, while euthanization rates also decreased.


Last year, the shelter saw a 17.20 percent increase in dog adoptions, while cat adoptions increased 38.32 percent, compared to 2010.


Euthanizations for dogs decreased 52.40 percent, compared to 2010, while cat euthanizations decreased 43.18 percent.
