Gerald Dean Stephan, 69, of Kingsville, Missouri, formerly of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away on Feb. 23, 2010.

Gerald Dean Stephan, 69, of Kingsville, Missouri, formerly of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away on Feb. 23, 2010.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at Timothy Lutheran Church. A memorial service conducted by Pastor Francis Lieb will be held at 4 p.m. at the church.

Gerald was born on July 8, 1940, in Rockwell City, Iowa, the son of the late Robert and Lois (Cundiff) Stephan. He was a graduate of Rockwell City High School. Gerald served his country in the U.S. Air Force and also served eight years in the National Guard Reserve from 1960-1968. He was married to the love of his life, Marlene C. Voss on Jan. 1, 1961, in Manson, Iowa. Gerald and Marlene resided in Heber Springs, Ark., in the 1970s where they owned Stephan Construction and were charter members at Hope Lutheran Church. They moved to Blue Springs, Missouri, in 1979, where they raised their family. Gerald was a member of the Bricklayer’s Union and spent most of his life constructing schools and houses. He built the commissary at Fort Leavenworth and put the emblem on the main building at UMKC. He was also a member of the Toast Masters Business Association and the Lions Club. Gerald was a longtime member at Timothy Lutheran Church and had been a Youth Counselor. In his spare time, Gerald loved to tend his gardens and spend afternoons at his lake fishing.

He leaves behind his wife of the home, Marlene; children, Brenda Hansen of Overland Park, Kan., Wayne Stephan of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Dorene Stephan of Santa Maria, Calif., Chrisenda Stephan-Forrest & husband, Larry of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; sister, Joyce Johnson & husband, Dean of Rockwell City, Iowa; brother, Dwaine Stephan & wife, Lisa of Modesta, Calif.; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
