    Eden Heights Community of Christ will hold its annual Thanksgiving Dinner and Craft/Bake Sale from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, 1301 E. Sea Ave., Independence.

    Messiah Lutheran Church will hold a wine-and-food tasting event, “Taste the Commitment,” from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Junior Service League building, 3122 S. Crysler Ave., Independence.
    This event, a benefit for Messiah Lutheran School, includes wine, food, coffee and desserts, silent and live auctions, a giving tree and live entertainment.

    ‘Help Us Remain
    Faithful’ is theme
    The evangelist of Stone Church will speak on the theme “Help Us Remain Faithful” at the 10:20 a.m. worship service this Sunday at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.
    The rvangelists are the spiritual leaders of the congregation. Evangelists participating in the service are Carol Constance, Joe Anway, William Landrum and Ronald Yager Sr. Special music is provided by Barbara Allinder, Amy and Dennis Sharier and John Davies. Others participating in the service include Rozanne Dowell.

    ‘Give Thanks in
    All Circumstances’
    The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection’s final sermon series on success, “Give Thanks in All Circumstance,” will be Sunday. The church, based in Leawood, has a campus at 601 N.E. Jefferson St. in Blue Springs. The service is at 10:30 a.m. and includes the sermon via video.
    Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church will be collecting items for the Uplift Organization, new to Chapel Hill’s pantry. They will be our November pantry gift gathering and are in need of the following: Canned fruits, vegetables and meats; pop-top ready to eat soups; powered hot chocolate; jerky; bottled water; deodorant and razors; travel size body wash, shampoo, conditioner, soap; thermal shirts and pants and more (gently used items are welcome too.)
    The Board of Deacons is hosting a Thanksgiving potluck following the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday.
    On Monday, the church will be hosting the Truman Medical Center Thanksgiving dinner. The dishes that are being brought on Monday need to be at the church before 3:30 p.m. Those serving will leave Chapel Hill at 3:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5:00 p.m.

    Free Thanksgiving dinner food boxes for families in need will be passed out at the 9 and 10:30 a.m. worship services Sunday at Church on the Rock Outreach Center, 1700 S.W. Market St., Lee’s Summit.
    The services will include great music, and Pastor Toney Hensley will share a special Thanksgiving message.
    The food boxes come complete with turkey. If you or someone you know needs help this Thanksgiving, call the church at 816-246-7625 to reserve your food box. Quantities are limited, and reservations are required. Attendance during one of the services is necessary to pick up the dinner.
    ‘Celebration of
    Light’ scheduled
    A “Joyous Celebration of Light” will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 24 at the Independence Mormon Visitors’ Center, 937 W. Walnut St., Independence.
    This annual lighting ceremony will mark the beginning of the Christmas season. It features a Christmas message from Stake President Manuel Medina; music celebrating the birth of Christ by the Mormon Chorale; Christmas decor highlighted by the Christus statue; and refreshments.

    who have gone on
    A service of remembrance to honor the memory of loved ones will be held at 5 p.m. Dec. 1 at Eastgate Christian Church, 4010 S. River Blvd., Independence.
    There will be a candle lighting, speaking the names of the deceased, music and a short memorial message. All are invited to bring an ornament to place on a tree of remembrance, if desired, to make the service more personal. A time of fellowship will follow the service.
    Participants are asked to call the church at 816-252-6828 between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday to provide the names and the relationship of the loved one.
    Santa, pancakes
    at Colonial Hills
    Colonial Hills Community of Christ will hold a free pancake breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 1, 3539 S.W. Missouri 7, Blue Springs.
    There will also be a Christmas Shoppe with items available for $1.50 each (free gift wrapping), and prize drawings. Also, have your picture taken with Santa for $1, or bring your own camera.

    Catholic Charities
    offers housing aid
    Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph has a Supportive Services for Veteran Families program, which assists veterans and veteran families who seek assistance with permanent housing. Services include housing counseling, employment search, linkage to relevant benefits and resource acquisition.
    The program is currently enrolling veterans throughout the Kansas City area. Eligible clients are those willing to participate in one-on-one support, including setting goals for increasing income, housing, health, mental health, education, employment or social progress.
